Reception: Friday, February 3, 6-8pm.
Curator Statement
Digital art has evolved greatly since the first computer art exhibition in the United States was held in 1965 at the Howard Wise Gallery in New York. The world's first solo museum exhibition of Manford Mohr's computer generated art was held at the Musee d'Art Modern Paris, France in 1971. Following the development of the first computer generated paint program in 1973 artists began to more fully explore the technology that the medium had to offer. As the technology grew so did the artistic vision. Today the possibilities are limitless.
Berkeley City College offers a wide range of classes that give artists the skills needed to explore this ever expanding art form. The Digital Arts Club was founded with the goal of bringing together artists in multimedia arts and help showcase their artistry. Members of the Digital Arts Club work together to support, encourage and promote the development of digital art.
The work in this exhibit shows the diversity that is achieved in the skillful hands of a digital artist Our intent was to showcase a cross section work that is possible using current digital technology in the realm of printmaking. The work chosen for this exhibit represents a variety of aesthetic perspectives, from the realistic to the abstract and offers the viewer the opportunity to experience the cutting edge of digital art today.
